Gifford, Edward. Tongan Society, provides a thorough study. First written from 1929 view, now re-written in 1985.

Hau'ofa, 'Epeli. Our Crowded Islands, will inform readers of the population growth and outside influences on the island of Tongatapu.

Keller, Nancy and Swaney, Deanna. Tonga, Lonely Planet Guidebook. What's the Kava drink and what's the recipe for Tongan Lu Pulu? These anecdotal text inserts (marked throughout the book by borders of flower graphics) soften the straight forward, factual coverage of Tonga. The book is very comprehensive, easy to use and easy to read. Extremely useful guidebook.
