Snorkeling and marine life

Sea fans and sponges

Waving sea fans, colorful sponges and soft corals dominate the underwater world around Belize.
Snorkelers in Belize

A resident school of grunts can often be found in 10 feet of water under the dock.

Sponges

Occasionally, snorkelers see turtles resting on the bottom, or swimming to the surface to breathe.

Featherstar

Invertebrates, such as this crinoid, or featherstar and the octopus below, hide in crevices in the reef during daytime, and come out to feed as the sun goes down.
  Gray Angelfish

Angelfish, such as this pair of Gray Angelfishes, always move in pairs and are very inquisitve.
Octopus

Master of disguise, the octopus can change colors and skin texture in seconds and is a great animal to observe while it moves around on the reef.
Nurse shark

Considered harmless, the nurse shark can be found resting on sandy bottoms in just a few feet of water.
Stingray and snorkeler

Rays like to rest in the seagrass beds right in front of the resort.

Lighthouse reef and the Blue Hole

Snorkel the Blue Hole

One of the highlights of the program, should be a day long excursion to the famous Blue Hole. Followed by a BBQ picknick and a visit to the Booby and Magnificent Frigate Bird nesting colony on Lighthouse reef.

Mangrove drift-snorkel

Mangrove drift snorkel

Without much effort, the clear water of an incoming tide gently carries us through a channel in the mangroves. The roots of these well adapted plants are covered in colorful sponges and on the bottom we find seagrass and the unique stingless upside-down jellyfish.

The Belize Zoo

Cat in Belize Zoo
The Belize Zoo gives a very complete and clear overview of all the animals that are native to Belize: howler monkeys, bats, wild cats and the unique tapir. Most animals are kept in open, wooden-fence enclosures and provide us with a hands-on experience.
