Included
in our Roatan program is a two night excursion to the highland town
of Copan. The Mayan archeological site of Copan benefits from many
years of ongoing excavations by world-class archeologists who revealed
majestic temples, ancient roads and residential neighborhoods. |

The
history of Copan is literally etched in stone: intricately carved
masks, statues and stelae: free-standing history "books"
up to twelve feet tall. |

| Copan
also has a spectacular sculpture museum featuring a full-scale replica
of the Rosalila temple, brightly colored in its original colors. The stone carvings displayed in the museum are considered to be among the best of the Mayan period.  |

The
nearby town of Copan Ruinas still has an authentic feeling: horses
clip-clop through cobblestone streets, and vegetables are sold at
the town market. |
